Attendance

  • Engaging in school has a huge impact on a student’s success. Families play a key role in supporting participation in school and helping them understand why attendance and engagement is so important. When students miss instruction, regardless of the reason, it can cause them to fall behind and get discouraged. Absences can add up quickly.

    We expect students to come to school every day for the entire day. We realize some absences are unavoidable. Please communicate with your child’s school when your child is going to miss instruction so we can ensure that support is available as needed. 

Absence Types

  • Excused Absences
    • Illness or Injury (student only)
    • Medical appointments
    • Funeral Service of Immediate Family Member (mother, father, sibling, grandparent, or other relative living in the home) for 1 day within California, 3 days for out of state
    • Quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer. May be excused “upon approval of the principal”
    • Observation of a religious holiday or ceremony
    Unexcused Absences
    • All absences or tardies other than those listed as excused, even if the parent or guardian calls the school or sends a note. 
    • This includes family trips or vacations.
    Truancy Any student who has three (3) or more unexcused absences or tardies greater than 30 minutes in a school year will be declared a Truant pursuant to the provisions of Section 48260 of the California Education Code that state and student may be referred for support. The School District provides support through the School Attendance Review Team which meets regularly with students and their families with school attendance challenges. The purpose of these meetings are to develop plans to improve the attendance of the student and reduce the number of referrals to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
    Independent Study Contracts  91ณินฯอ๘ provides Short Term Contracts for Independent Study for students who need an optional educational alternative to accommodate travel, personal, or other situations requiring the student to be away from school (such as quarantine and/or other pandemic concerns). Contracts need to be arranged prior to the leave date and approved by the principal.

Coming to school everyday allows our community to thrive because we get to learn from one another  Building relationships is a crucial part of growing up and attending school. It’s hard to build relationships and get to know one another’s strengths, interests and values when we’re not at school.
